About

Mila’s Books is the world’s only all-Pasifika publishing team, dedicated to creating stories that celebrate the languages, cultures, and identities of the Pacific. Founded in 2019 by award-winning author and publisher Dahlia Malaeulu, Mila’s Books exists to ensure that Pasifika tamaiti (children), families, and communities feel seen, heard, and valued in the stories they read.

We publish a diverse range of Pasifika children’s books, middle-grade novels, and wellbeing resources, all created by Pasifika authors, illustrators, and creatives. Our stories are deeply rooted in our values and traditions, ensuring authentic storytelling that reflects the richness of Pacific cultures.

An Award-Winning Publisher

Mila’s Books has been recognised for its impact across cultural, business, and publishing industries, receiving a variety of accolades from the Creative New Zealand Pacific Arts Awards, the Pacific Business Trust National Pasifika Business Awards, as well as New Zealand's Emerging Publisher of the Year Award in 2023. Internationally, our commitment to Pasifika storytelling has been acknowledged with a finalist placement for Children's Publisher of the Year at the Bologna Book Fair (BOP Awards), a prestigious global recognition in children's publishing. These honours reflect our dedication to uplifting Pasifika stories, voices, and communities through the power of books.

More Than Publishing

Beyond publishing, Mila’s Books is committed to empowering the next generation of Pasifika storytellers. Through initiatives like the Mila’s Books Tusitala Programme and the Pasifika Book Hub, we provide mentorship, and support to emerging Pasifika writers. We also work closely with schools, libraries, and organisations to deliver literacy and cultural workshops, strengthening Pasifika storytelling in Aotearoa and beyond.

With national and international distribution, our books reach readers across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. Whether through our stories or our literacy initiatives, Mila’s Books is part of a movement to reclaim, celebrate, and amplify Pasifika voices in publishing.

Our stories. Our way.
